The mystery surrounding the deaths of legendary Hollywood actor Gene Hackman and his wife Betsy has intensified, with law enforcement now preparing to interrogate the couple’s children.

According to Mirror.co.uk, police are set to question Hackman’s three children—Christopher, 65, Elizabeth, 63, and Leslie, 58—in an effort to reconstruct the final days of their father and his wife. The couple was found dead in different rooms of their New Mexico home earlier this week.

A day after the tragic discovery, Elizabeth and Leslie were seen in public, appearing visibly distressed. Leslie revealed that she hadn’t spoken to her father for months.

Authorities have confirmed they are in the process of speaking with “family members” as they attempt to determine who last had contact with Hackman and his wife before their deaths. Santa Fe County Sheriff Adan Mendoza addressed the media on Friday, stating that identifying the couple’s last interactions has been a major challenge for investigators.

Earlier reports suggested that maintenance workers may have been among the last to speak with the couple. However, investigators are no longer certain if that is the case.

Leslie, who is 58, previously shared that while she had not spoken to her father recently, their relationship remained strong. “We were close. I hadn’t talked to them for a couple of months, but everything was normal and everything was good,” she said. Her sister, Elizabeth Jean, 62, initially speculated that toxic fumes might have been responsible for the deaths. However, a postmortem examination ruled this possibility out.

Investigators are also looking into two cell phones recovered from the residence, believing they could provide crucial insights. The devices have been taken for analysis, and authorities may seek assistance from external forensic specialists to unlock potential evidence.

During Friday’s press conference, Sheriff Mendoza revealed that Hackman likely passed away around nine days before his body was discovered. The last recorded activity on his pacemaker occurred on February 17. When asked whether this was the likely date of Hackman’s death, Mendoza confirmed, “According to the pathologist, I think that is a very good assumption that that was his last day of life.”

Authorities have not yet determined whether Hackman or his wife died first. Both bodies, along with the remains of a deceased dog found inside a bathroom closet, were described as being in a “mummified” state.
