Ryan Gosling is a teacher turned astronaut in the first official trailer for Project Hail Mary, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse directors Phil Lord and Christopher Miller's upcoming film. The trailer starts with Gosling's character waking up in a spaceship without any clue about who or where he is. Later, we get to know about his backstory. He is entrusted with a space mission as the sun starts dying out and threatens to make Earth an inhabitable place. Gosling's character must figure out what is causing this phenomenon and solve the mystery by relying solely on some unconventional methods and scientific knowledge. The trailer also shows Gosling's character forming a connection with an alien.

The film, adapted from Andy Weir's novel Project Hail Mary by screenwriter Drew Goddard of The Martian fame, also stars Sandra Huller, Ken Leung, Milana Vayntrub, and Lionel Boyce in key supporting roles. Gosling also serves as one of the producers of the film, alongside Amy Pascal, Christopher Miller, Phil Lord, Rachel O’Connor, Aditya Sood, and Weir.

Project Hail Mary reunites The Martian novelist Weir with Goddard. Interestingly, the film brings back Gosling into space after First Man, the 2018 Damien Chazelle directorial that stars him as Neil Armstrong. Project Hail Mary is slated for March 20, 2026, release through Sony Pictures Entertainment India. Meanwhile, you can watch the film's trailer here:
