Connie Britton is heading back to HBO. The five-time Emmy nominee has joined the cast of the network’s upcoming half-hour comedy series from Bill Lawrence (Ted Lasso) and Matt Tarses (Scrubs) in a recurring guest role. She’ll portray the ex-wife of Steve Carell’s character, a central figure in the series.

Set on a college campus, the series revolves around a complicated father-daughter dynamic, with Carell playing an author navigating life alongside his daughter, played by Charly Clive. Britton joins a cast that also includes Danielle Deadwyler, Phil Dunster, Lauren Tsai, and John C McGinley.

Lawrence and Tarses penned the premiere episode of the 10-episode first season. Lawrence executive produces the show through his Doozer Productions banner alongside Jeff Ingold and Liza Katzer. Additional executive producers include Tarses, Jonathan Krisel, Barbie Adler, Annie Mebane, David Stassen, Anthony King, and Carell. The series is being produced by Doozer in association with Warner Bros. Television, with both Lawrence and Tarses under overall deals at the studio.

Britton was most recently seen in Netflix’s limited series Zero Day opposite Robert De Niro and in Apple TV+’s Dear Edward. She also appeared in Benito Skinner’s Prime Video comedy Overcompensating. Her acclaimed role as Nicole Mossbacher in The White Lotus earned her a fifth Emmy nomination. Other notable credits include Bravo’s Dirty John, ABC’s Nashville, NBC’s Friday Night Lights as fan-favorite Tami Taylor, and several Ryan Murphy series including American Horror Story, The People v. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story, and 9-1-1.
