Liam Neeson goes against type in filmmaker Akiva Schaffer's Naked Gun reboot, where he plays Leslie Nielsen's Police Squad legend's son Frank Drebin Jr. Paramount Pictures dropped a new trailer for the film, where Neeson does slapstick and spoof in ways you may not expect from the actor, who is known for his intense screen persona and action roles. The trailer has everything from the innocuous fart jokes to raunchy humour, including a sexually suggestive one involving Neeson and Pamela Anderson's characters.

Anderson's character approaches Neeson's cop after "someone murdered" her brother. She takes a chair and walks away when Drebin offers her a seat.

Later, Drebin looks at a case report and tells a character, played by Busta Rhymes, "It says you’ve served 20 years for man’s laughter." Rhymes' character replies, saying, "You mean manslaughter?" and Drebin gets back at him, stating, "Must have been quite the joke."

Films such as Ted star Neeson in cameo roles, but Naked Gun marks his first lead role in a comedy film. Schaffer is directing the film from a screenplay by Dan Gregor and Doug Mand, who reunite with the former after Chip ‘n Dale: Rescue Rangers, which won Outstanding Television Movie at the 2022 Primetime Emmy Awards. Erica Huggins and Seth MacFarlane are producing the film, based on David Zucker, Jerry Zucker, and Jim Abrahams' original Naked Gun franchise and their Police Squad! TV series. The franchise began in 1988 with The Naked Gun: From the Files of Police Squad!, starring Nielsen, Priscilla Presley and George Kennedy, and it has two sequels.

Naked Gun is slated for an August 01 release in US theatres.
