I Know What You Did Last Summer distributor Sony Pictures Entertainment released a new trailer for the film a while ago. "This summer, karma is a killer," reads the caption for the trailer. Neal H Moritz is producing the film, described as a "legacy sequel". However, judging by the trailer, the film seems like a reimagining of the 1997 original. Writer-director Jennifer Kaytin Robinson's film revolves around a group of friends who cover up a murder and agree to keep it a secret among themselves. However, someone who knows their secret keeps stalking them one by one. The trailer features a killer clad in a veiled coat and wielding a large fish hook as his main weapon—reminiscent of the villain from the 1997 film.

The film brings the original's cast members Jennifer Love Hewitt and Freddie Prinze Jr. It also stars Madelyn Cline, Chase Sui Wonders, Jonah Hauer-King, Tyriq Withers, Sarah Pidgeon, Billy Campbell, Gabbriette Bechtel, Austin Nichols, Lola Tung, and Nicholas Alexander Chavez.

Robinson is directing the film from a screenplay she has written alongside Sam Lansky, based on a story by Robinson herself and Leah McKendrick. The trailer features some amazing transition shots, hinting at a reboot that best represents modern filmmaking sensibilities.

I Know What You Did Last Summer is slated for a July 18, 2025, release in theatres.
