Danny Boyle, who is awaiting the release of 28 Years Later, is not looking to direct a James Bond film anytime in the future. "The ship has sailed," the director said, expressing regret after leaving James Bond film No Time To Die.

Boyle was supposed to direct No Time to Die but had to exit the project in 2018, citing creative differences with the producers as the reason. Later, Cary Joji Fukunaga took over the direction of the film and was released in 2021.

Best known for Slumdog Millionaire and Trainspotting, said in an interview with Business Insider, "The script was really good. John Hodge (Boyle’s longtime collaborator) is a wonderful writer."

According to the publication, Boyle earlier shared the plot that would centre on a Russian villain and feature the death of James Bond—a plot point that ultimately appeared in No Time to Die, as Daniel Craig had arranged for that ending as part of his contract.

No Time to Die featured Daniel Craig in the lead role of 007 agent and was the 25th installment of the James Bond film series.

Meanwhile, 28 Years Later, slated to release in theatres on June 20, is directed by Boyle and written by Alex Garland. It will be a follow-up to 2002’s 28 Days Later and 2007’s 28 Weeks Later. Boyle and Garland are reuniting for 28 years later, after 17 years.

The ensemble cast of the film stars Jodie Comer, Ralph Fiennes, and Aaron Taylor-Johnson, along with Jack O'Connell and Erin Kellyman.
