After premiering at the Cannes Film Festival, audiences can now travel back to 2020 to catch a glimpse of a tension-filled world of Ari Aster's Eddington unfolding against the backdrop of the COVID-19 pandemic featuring two protagonists played by Joaquin Phoenix and Pedro Pascal.

A24 has released the over two-minute-long trailer which follows a tense standoff between a small-town sheriff (Phoenix) and mayor (Pascal) that ignites a powder keg of neighbourly conflicts in Eddington, New Mexico.

Eddington promises to deliver a thought-provoking and intense cinematic experience, exploring the tensions and conflicts that arose during this pivotal moment in history.

Also a part of the cast are Luke Grimes, Deirdre O'Connell, Micheal Ward, Amélie Hoeferle, Clifton Collins Jr., William Belleau, with Austin Butler and Emma Stone. This is Aster's fourth feature following Hereditary, Midsommar, and Beau Is Afraid.

Darius Khondji, two-time Oscar-nominee, will crank the camera for Eddington. Aster and Lars Knudsen are also bankrolling the film under their Square Peg banner.

Eddington is set to be released in theatres on July 18.
