Chris Sanders, who wrote and helmed the beloved animated film Lilo & Stitch (2002) and voiced stitch in the live-action remake, is coming back to write the live-action film's sequel as well.

The film, directed by Dean Fleischer Camp, follows an alien who accidentally comes to Hawaii, where a girl adopts it alongside her elder sibling. It recently broke records to become the first Hollywood film of 2025 to cross the $1 billion mark at the box office.

This feat only continues to reflect the franchise's legacy and love for the adorable blue alien. The consumer products alone made over $2.5 billion across the world.

Maia Kealoha played Lilo Pelekai in her first movie, and Chris Sanders, the original writer-director of Lilo & Stitch, returned as Stitch's voice. Other supporting actors include Sydney Elizebeth Agudong, Billy Magnussen, Hannah Waddingham, Courtney B. Vance, Zach Galifianakis, and former cast members Amy Hill, Tia Carrere, and Jason Scott Lee.

Two direct-to-video sequels to the original 2002 film were released, including Stitch! The Movie, Lilo & Stitch: The Series, and Stitch Has a Glitch. The next sequel will tell a completely different tale.

That's not all. Chris Sanders is also keen on developing a sequel to The Wild Robot for DreamWorks Animation.

Based on the 2016 novel The Wild Robot by Peter Brown, the film which was released last year, features the voices of Lupita Nyong'o, Pedro Pascal, Kit Connor, Bill Nighy, Stephanie Hsu, Matt Berry, Ving Rhames, Mark Hamill, and Catherine O'Hara. It minted over $330 million at the box office.
