Ozzy Osbourne, the frontman of the rock band Black Sabbath, has died at the age of 76, his family announced on Tuesday. An official cause of his death is yet to be revealed, but Osbourne had been experiencing health issues over the last few years. A showman as well as a controversial figure for biting a bat and for his drug abuse history, Osbourne's passing comes about a month into his retirement. Recently, he met his Black Sabbath peers for the only time in the last 20 years.
Black Sabbath's heavy metal music, with Osbourne at the helm, played a major part in revolutionising rock music in the United Kingdom. Therefore, he is often known as the 'Godfather of Heavy Metal'. His best songs include 'Black Sabbath', 'War Pigs', 'Iron Man', 'Snowblind / Supernaut', and 'Mama, I’m Coming Home'. Some of his songs also appear in feature films, such as 'Mama, I'm Coming Home' in Little Nicky and 'Crazy Train' in Ghost Rider, to name two. Osbourne also acted in many films, including as himself in Little Nicky and Austin Powers in Goldmember, as well as in fictional voice roles in films such as Gnomeo and Juliet and its sequel Sherlock Gnomes.
Osbourne is also called 'Prince of Darkness' thanks to the fear-inducing music in his band Black Sabbath's eponymous song from 1970, which drew inspiration from horror cinema. He is featured in many documentaries on music and his life, such as God Bless Ozzy Osbourne (2011) and Biography: The Nine Lives of Ozzy Osbourne (2020), and the popular reality TV show The Osbournes also featuring his family.
