Tom Holland makes his first collaboration with filmmaker Christopher Nolan with the upcoming film The Odyssey, and the actor is very excited about the project. In a recent conversation with GQ Sports, Holland revealed that he has not worked on a project of its scale before in his career and that the audience would have similar sentiments about the film. "I think the movie is going to be unlike anything we’ve ever seen," said Holland, much to the excitement of Nolan fans across the globe.
Speaking of which, Holland also praised Nolan and the latter's producer wife Emma Thomas, calling them the best at what they do. Describing Nolan as a master craftsman, Holland said that collaborating with the visionary filmmaker is his career-best experience.
Holland plays Odysseus' (Matt Damon) son Telemachus in the epic film based on Homer's eponymous poem. The poem follows the titular character's arduous journey back to his home in Ithaca subsequent to The Trojan War. In the journey, Odysseus comes across and deals with multiple challenges, including mythical creatures.
The Odyssey also stars Zendaya, Anne Hathaway, Robert Pattinson, Lupita Nyong’o, Jon Bernthal, and Charlize Theron, among other actors. In the recent interview, Holland described both Damon and Hathaway as his "heroes" and expressed his gratitude for being able to share screen space with the two, learn from them on the set, and befriend them. He added that he viewed working on the film as an opportunity to establish his acting credentials, potentially alluding to some of the criticism he has faced from his detractors. "I have a point to prove with the film," he essentially told GQ Sports.
Ever since his announcement in the project, some netizens expressed reservations about Holland being cast in such a prominent role in the Nolan directorial and the adaptation of a period epic. For the uninitiated, Holland is best known for his more commercial films, such as the Spider-Man franchise.
The Odyssey is touted as the first-ever feature film that has been shot using IMAX cameras. Universal Pictures has slated it for a July 17, 2026 release in theatres worldwide. Nolan and Thomas are producing it under their Syncopy Inc banner. The film's trailer has been shown in theatres and even leaked online.
