Christopher Nolan is set to film his highly anticipated adaptation of Homer's poem The Odyssey on the shores of Sicily, a location believed to have inspired the epic poem itself. Scholars suggest that the island played a significant role in the wanderings of Ulysses, the legendary Greek hero. The Odyssey, a cornerstone of Western literature, chronicles the arduous decade-long journey of King Ulysses of Ithaca as he strives to return home after the Trojan War. Production is set to commence in approximately two months on Favignana, affectionately called Goat Island. This picturesque isle in the Egadi archipelago is strongly associated with Homer's depiction of Ulysses and his crew landing to feast on barbecued goats and replenish their food supply.

While filming is also expected to take place in the Eolian Islands, as per reports, Favignana will serve as the primary Sicilian location for the ambitious project, which Nolan is shooting with new Imax technology. The United Kingdom and Morocco are also confirmed filming locations.

Nolan and his wife Emma Thomas are producing The Odyssey under their Syncopy banner for Universal Pictures, their Oppenheimer distributor. The cast includes Matt Damon, Tom Holland, Anne Hathaway, Zendaya, Lupita Nyong'o, Robert Pattinson, and Charlize Theron.
