Christopher Eccleston, Emma Thompson, Anna Friel, Rebecca Root, and Julian Ovenden are cast in Hear Me Roar. The drama will be directed by Amy Coop from a screenplay by transgender woman Ashley Bayston and her lawyer Lisa McMullin, whose real life inspired the story. The film follows the woman and her legal fight with the government that went on have a considerable impact on the status of the LGBTQ+ community in the United Kingdom.

Elizabeth (Liz) Bellinger got married to a man named Michael in 1981. Michael realised that she was holding back a secret from him for almost 20 years. However, Bellinger sought legal recognition of her marriage in 1998, and two years later, it became a court matter. The film begins with Bellinger's meeting with Bayston, and it explores the complex legal route they went through in the next three years.

The Queen’s Gambit star Root is cast as Bellinger, whereas Friel is set to play Bayston.
