Director Denis Villeneuve expressed displeasure over Academy Awards making Hans Zimmer's score for Dune: Part Two ineligible.

The Oscars deemed the score unfit for the category as the sequel featured much of its score from the first film released in 2021.

Saying that he doesn't use the word genius often, Villeneuve called Hans a genius and added he is absolutely against the decision to exclude Hans as he felt "his score is one the best scores of the year".

Reacting to the grounds on which the score was disqualified, Villeneuve explained that the sequel was "rooted in Part One" and that the two films are one big film cut in half.

However, Hans Zimmer was nominated for Best Original Score at this year's Golden Globes.

Villeneuve adapted Frank Herbert's 1965 epic science fiction novel of the same name to helm the first part that released in 2021 and the sequel that released last year. Both the films amassed $1.12 billion at the global box office, with the first one bagging six Oscars, including for the Best Original Score, Best Cinematography and Best Film Editing categories.

The third part in the franchise, Dune Messiah will either release in late 2025 or early 2026.
