Reportedly, Paramount Pictures' Sonic the Hedgehog franchise has achieved a significant milestone, surpassing $1 billion in global box office revenue. Made on the basis of the popular Sega game series, the first two films, which released in 2020 and 2022, respectively, grossed around $725 million worldwide. The latest entry, Sonic the Hedgehog 3, which hit theatres in December last year, has already amassed over $312 million, propelling the franchise's total earnings beyond the $1 billion mark.

Jeff Fowler directed all three films in the franchise. The film brings back the original actors, including Jim Carrey for Dr Robotnik. Pat Casey, Josh Miller, and John Whittington penned the screenplay with a story by Miller and Casey. It also has a series spinoff Knuckles, which became the most-watched series for kids and family audiences within the first 28 days of its Paramount+ premiere.

Besides box-office success, Sonic the Hedgehog 3 has garnered critical acclaim.
