Legendary actor Gene Hackman and his pianist wife Betsy Arakawa were found dead at their house in Santa Fe, New Mexico, on Wednesday. Santa Fe County Sheriff's Office disclosed the news to the press. The law enforcement has not found any sign of criminal behaviour at the location, and they are yet to offer a reason for the couple's deaths. Hackman was aged 95, while Arakawa was 63. Their dog was also found dead. The law enforcement has commenced a preliminary probe into the matter.

Hackman is appreciated for his wide acting range that saw him play people with plenty of power and lowlifes. Known for his towering screen presence, the actor's notable credits include The French Connection, Mississippi Burning, The Conversation, Unforgiven, Crimson Tide, and No Way Out. His iconic performance as Jimmy “Popeye” Doyle, a corrupt cop who works outside the law enforcement system to catch criminals, earned him a Best Actor Oscar in 1972. He would go on to win another Academy Award, this time a Best Supporting Actor Oscar, for his performance in 1992's Unforgiven. His portrayal of Lex Luthor in early Superman films also earned him a spot among the cultural icons of America.
