Fans of Spider-Man will have to wait a little longer for Tom Holland's Spider-Man 4 to release in theatres. Sony Pictures announced that the next installment of the beloved superhero film will release on the big screens on July 31, 2026, a week later than the previously announced date. Destin Daniel Cretton, who earlier directed the Marvel film Shang Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, will helm the upcoming sequel to the 2021 film Spider-Man: No Way Home which currently remains untitled.

Spider-Man 4, scripted by Erik Sommers and Chris McKenna, was earlier set to debut within a week of the release of The Odyssey, director Christopher Nolan's much-anticipated adaptation of Greek poet Homer's 2000-year-old epic poem. The new release date for Spider-Man 4 will give a breathing time for both the films as they fight it out at the box office. The mythic action epic also stars Tom Holland alongside an ensemble cast consisting of A-listers like Matt Damon who plays the titular role of Odysseus, Anne Hathaway, Zendaya, Lupita Nyong’o, Robert Pattinson and Charlize Theron, among others.

Jon Watts directed the first three Spider-Man installments starring Holland: Spider-Man: Homecoming (2017), Spider-Man: Far From Home (2019), and No Way Home. All three films were well received by the audiences and were big successes at the box office.

Spider-Man 4 will now clash with Paramount’s Paw Patrol 3 at the box office. Amy Pascal and Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige are backing the film. Zendaya is yet to be confirmed as the female lead as her deal is still in the talks. The other members of the cast has not been disclosed.

MCU's last feature was the recent Captain America: Brave New World. Up next in the pipleline is Thunderbolts in May, followed by The Fantastic Four: First Steps, which hits theaters on July 25. In 2026, the release of Avengers: Doomsday starring Robert Downey Jr. as Doctor Doom is awaited.
