When Eric Floyd was at his fourth-grade basketball game, the first pitch went through his legs, and a spectator yelled, “Get that kid out of the field, he’s sleeping!” Since then, he became "Sleepy" Floyd, and went on to have a career in basketball after starting to play competitively in high school. Now, Jay Ellis stars as "Sleepy" Floyd in the new action comedy Freaky Tales, along with Pedro Pascal and Ben Mendelsohn.

Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck, the duo behind Captain Marvel (2019), have written, produced and directed the film. It stars Pedro Pascal, Jay Ellis, Normani, Dominique Thorne, Ji-young Yoo, Angus Cloud, Jack Champion, and Ben Mendelsohn, with acting legend Tom Hanks also featuring in a cameo. The late Angus Cloud has one of his final on-screen appearances in Freaky Tales.

According to the official synopsis, Freaky Tales is set in 1987, Oakland, USA, and is about an NBA star, a corrupt police officer, a female rap duo, punk teenagers, neo-Nazis and a debt collector who are set on a collision course in a fever dream of showdowns and battles.

Freaky Tales premiered at the Sundance Film Festival on January 18, 2024. It is set to release in theatres on April 4, 2025.
