Earlier, we reported that Steven Spielberg is directing a film from a screenplay by David Koepp for Universal Pictures. The latest development related to the project is that it will hit theatres on June 12, 2026, instead of the previously announced date May 15 next year. It is set to release together with the next instalment in the Scary Movie franchise and a week before Toy Story 5. It has also replaced the release slot reserved for Universal Pictures' film with Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert, the director duo behind the 2023 Best Picture Oscar winner Everything Everywhere All at Once. Universal Pictures is yet to announce a new release date for the Daniels film.

According to reports, the Daniels film is still in an early development stage, with no screenplay, cast, or title.

The other film will reunite Spielberg with Koepp, his writer on the first two Jurassic Park films and Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull.

The Spielberg directorial is yet to have a plotline or title. However, according to reports, it is connected to UFOs, a common element in early Spielberg classics such as Close Encounters of the Third Kind and ET The Extra-Terrestrial. It stars Emily Blunt, Josh O’Connor, Colin Firth, Eve Hewson, and Colman Domingo.
