The phrase 'Goonies never die' is ever so relevant now, with the sequel to the 1985 Richard Donner film being developed at Warner Bros. Steven Spielberg is set to produce the film with Chris Columbus (Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone), writer of the original.

According to sources for Variety, Potsy Panciroli, the writer and director of Old Henry, is set to write the script for the film. Lauren Schuler Donner, owner of The Donners' Company and wife of Richard Donner, is to produce the upcoming film along with Spielberg and Columbus.

The Goonies (1985) revolves around a group of kids who live in the Goon Docks neighbourhood of Astoria, Oregon. It follows their attempt to save their homes from foreclosure by the local banks by going on an adventure to find the treasure of a legendary 17th-century pirate.

The original film starred Sean Astin (The Lord of the Rings film series, Stranger Things), Josh Brolin (Avengers: Endgame, No Country for Old Men), Ke Huy Quan (Everything Everywhere All at Once, Marvel's Loki), Corey Feldman (Stand by Me), and Martha Plimpton (Frozen II, The Blacklist).
