Hulu is on the verge of ordering a pilot for a sequel to the critically acclaimed series Buffy the Vampire Slayer. According to reports, negotiations are happening with Sarah Michelle Gellar for a reprisal of her titular role in the series, although she is considered for a recurring role instead of a lead role as the sequel is set to follow a new Slayer. The original series follows Buffy Summers (Michelle Gellar) who looks for and slays dark forces, such as demons and vampires.

Lila Zuckerman and Nora Zuckerman are associated with the project as writers, showrunners, and executive producers. Chloe Zhao is also linked to the project as a director and executive producer. Gellar and Gail Berman would act as executive producers as well.

Originated in the form of a film in 1992, directed by Fran Kuzui from a Joss Whedon screenplay, the series Buffy the Vampire Slayer also has a spinoff titled Angel. Whedon, the creator of the series, who oversaw it for seven seasons, is not part of the sequel project. Actor Charisma Carpenter, who appeared in both series, alleged that Whedon created a toxic working environment, and her co-stars Michelle Trachtenberg and Amber Benson supported her accusations.
