Actor Idris Elba and screenwriter Roy Clarke have been knighted at the UK's New Year Honors in recognition of the actor's endeavours not only to cut down knife crime among British youngsters but also with the foundation that he established with spouse Sabrina. Responding to the news through Sky News, Elba said, "I receive this honor on behalf of the many young people whose talent, ambition and resilience has driven the work of the Elba Hope Foundation. I hope we can do more to draw attention to the importance of sustained, practical support for young people and to the responsibility we all share to help them find an alternative to violence."

The New Year Honors recipients also include England women's national football team manager Sarina Wiegman and actor-comedian-writer Meera Syal, who have both been named honorary dames.

Many musicians have also been appointed Member of the British Empire (MBE), including Wicked star Cynthia Erivo and Ellie Goulding. The MBE title is for considerable, long-time community service or an outstanding piece of achievement. While Erivo has been chosen for her services to the fields of drama and music, Goulding gets the recognition for her work related to the climate and biodiversity. Erivo described it as "an honor I could never have thought would happen."

Meanwhile, the Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) title has been given to actor-TV personality Warwick Davis. “This is the best thing that’s ever happened to me and I’ve been in Star Wars,” said Davis in a recent statement.

"This year’s Honors list celebrates the very best of Britain — people who put the common good ahead of themselves to strengthen communities and change lives," said Kier Starmer, Prime Minister of the United Kingdom. "Their quiet dedication speaks to the decent, compassionate country we are proud to be. On behalf of the whole nation, thank you — and congratulations to everyone recognized today," the PM added.
