Glen Powell has quashed all rumours about him playing the next James Bond. The actor, known for his roles in Top Gun: Maverick, Anyone But You, Twisters and more, has expressed his disinterest in playing the iconic 007 spy. "I’m Texan. A Texan should not play James Bond. My family and I joke around, I can play Jimmy Bond, but I should not be playing James Bond," he said in a recent interview.
The actor further said that an "authentic brit" should play the role. "That’s who belongs in that tuxedo," he said.
The new film will mark the first spy thriller installment produced by the studio since Amazon’s acquisition of MGM in 2022. It will also be the 26th entry in the James Bond franchise, following No Time To Die (2021), which featured Daniel Craig’s final performance as the iconic secret agent. Till now, only English, Scottish or Irish actors have played the role.
Search for a new James Bond is still on with many names being circulated on the internet including Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Henry Cavill, Theo James, Regé-Jean Page, Harris Dickinson and Kingsley Ben-Adir.
In June it was announced that Dune and Blade Runner 2049 creator Denis Villeneuve will direct the next instalment in the James Bond franchise. Acclaimed screenwriter Steven Knight is penning the new film which is backed by Amy Pascal and David Heyman. Tanya Lapointe serves as executive producer. Further details have been kept under wraps.
Following the success of recent box office hits such as Anyone But You, Twisters, and Hit Man, he is set to headline Edgar Wright’s The Running Man, slated for release on November 14. He also stars in the comedy series Chad Powers, co-created with Michael Waldron and inspired by a character from Eli Manning, which is expected to premiere this September.
