Netflix recently revealed that the third season of The Diplomat will start streaming from October 16. With Keri Russell as the lead, the third season reunites Allison Janney and Bradley Whitford after Aaron Sorkin's TV series, The West Wing.

The Diplomat is created by Debora Cahn, who has written for shows like The West Wing, Homeland, and Grey's Anatomy. She also serves as a writer and executive producer on the show. Russell is nominated for a Primetime Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series, with the series being nominated in the category of Outstanding Drama Series.

Whitford will play Todd Penn, the husband of the new president of the USA, Grace Penn (Allison Janney). Grace's ascension from Vice President might have been caused by Kate Wyler's (Keri Russell) husband, Hal (Rufus Sewell), who inadvertently killed the previous president. Yet, Hal is not slowing down in his campaign to make Kate the vice president.

The rest of the cast of the series includes David Gyasi, Ali Ahn, Ato Essandoh, and Rory Kinnear. Netflix had previously renewed The Diplomat for a fourth season.
