With the Superman franchise, with the DC Universe (DCU), explanding beyond the Man of Steel, Superman's director James Gunn, is confirmed to direct the next feature based on characters related to Superman. Gunn, beyond directing, is also the co-CEO of DC Studios.
According to Variety, the confirmation came from David Zaslav, the CEO of Warner Bros Discovery (WBD), the parent company of DC Studios. Zaslav revealed during the company's earning call, that Gunn would write and direct the next instalment in the "Super-Family", while not confirming whether that particular feature is a sequel to Superman.
Superman (2025), which was released on July 11, starred David Corenswet as Clark Kent/Superman, Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, and Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor. It is the first feature film in the newly formed DC Studios. The next feature in the DCU will be Supergirl, with Milly Alcock in the titular role.
Within the DC Universe there are also TV series, with the first one being the animated series, Creature Commandos. In the DCU, the upcoming slate includes the second season of Peacemaker, which stars John Cena as the titular character.
