James Gunn's Superman is returning, but not in the way audiences imagine it to be. The filmmaker had recently completed the film's long press tour, but will continue to work in the forthcoming weeks for two more projects.

In a social media interaction on Threads, James Gunn wrote, "Peacemaker press!! And sequel writing!!!" in reponse to a user's question on having time to relax after the press tour. Following Superman, Gunn is ready for another round of press tours for the second season of HBO series Peacemaker. Interestingly, he is also writing a follow-up to his superhero film, but it is not Superman 2.

When another user pointed out the confusion, he clarified, "This is the same movie. Superman has a major role. It’s not Superman 2." In an earlier interview with EW, he had mentioned the same, underlining that it is not a "straight-up Superman sequel."

In his latest film, David Corenswet as Superman confronts unforeseen fallout after stepping into an international crisis engineered by billionaire Lex Luthor ( Nicholas Hoult). With public trust shaken, he must work alongside fellow superheroes and journalists to restore his reputation.

The film also stars Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, Edi Gathegi, Anthony Carrigan, Nathan Fillion, and Isabela Merced.

Our CE review of the film read, "The biggest strength of the film is that it makes you believe an extremely affable super powered character believing in the goodness of humans can be realistic and even aspirational."

Superman, which has crossed $500 million globally, is out in theatres in IMAX 3D, 3D, and 2D formats. It is the ninth DC film to hit the mark and first since 2022's The Batman, directed by Matt Reeves. The film has surpassed Zack Snyder’s Man of Steel and 2017’s Justice League.
