Natasha Lyonne and Brit Marling are to unite for a film, titled Uncanny Valley, that will blend conventional filmmaking techniques and AI in an ethical manner. Jaron Lanier, a pioneer of modern-day virtual reality, will be on board, reports The Hollywood Reporter.

The story of Uncanny Valley focuses on a teenager who starts to disconnect from reality as an AR video game makes her lose her sense of what is real.

The film will be developed by Asteria, an AI-based studio which was founded by Lyonne and Bryn Mooser, a filmmaker and entrepreneur. Lyonne is writing the script with Marling, and both of them will star in the film.

Lyonne is known for her roles in Netflix's Russian Doll and Poker Face. Marling has starred in projects like The OA and Another Earth.

Jaron Lanier is a computer scientist and a writer who has worked on virtual reality in its early form. He has also dabbled in prose based on technology, classical music, and design.
