HBO unveils Harry Potter series cast

The series is based on the series of fantasy novels by JK Rowling

HBO has announced the cast for its upcoming series based on the Harry Potter novels by JK Rowling. The novels were adapted as a film series earlier with Daniel Radcliffe as Harry Potter.

The novel follows the story of Harry Potter as he goes to the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry after he finds out he is a wizard on his 11th birthday. Harry's journey and the hurdles he faces in the school form the story of the novels.

The cast of the series are John Lithgow as Albus Dumbledore, headmaster of Hogwarts; Janet McTeer as Minerva McGonagall, transfigurations professor at Hogwarts; Paapa Essiedu as Severus Snape, potions master at Hogwarts; and Nick Frost as Rubeus Hagrid, gamekeeper of Hogwarts.

New additions to the cast are Luke Thallon as Quirinus Quirrell, the new Defence Against the Dark Arts professor, and Paul Whitehouse as Argus Filch, caretaker at Hogwarts.

Francesca Gardiner is the creator, writer and showrunner for the series. She serves as an executive producer along with Mark Mylod, who directs multiple episodes of the series. Other executive producers include JK Rowling, Neil Blair, and Ruth Kenley-Letts of Bronte Film and TV, and David Heyman of Heyday Films.
