Happy Death Day franchise director Christopher Landon and lead actor Jessica Rothe have confirmed that a third film in the slasher film franchise is in the works. They made the announcement at a recent event where the first two films—2017's Happy Death Day and its 2019 sequel—were screened. The first film follows a self-absorbed college student (Rothe) who is murdered on her birthday and is forced to relive the same day over and over again to uncover her killer. The film and its sequel also starred Israel Broussard, Ruby Modine, Charles Aitken, Laura Clifton, Jason Bayle, Rob Mello, and Rachel Matthews. Jason Blum of the Blumhouse banner produced both films, based on the characters created by comic book writer Scott Lobdell.

The makers are yet to reveal the specifics of the third film's plot, cast, director, and so forth. However, Landon and Rothe are expected to return as the director and lead actor, respectively.
