The trailer for Small Things Like These, starring Cillian Murphy in the lead, was unveiled recently. Directed by Tim Mielants, the historical drama is based on the eponymous novel by Claire Keegan.
The trailer shows Murphy as a coal worker, who, while delivering coal across the town, finds dark secrets about a local convent and how it treats its women. While he wants to help the women there, he is also conflicted about revealing the secret as the Church and the convent are important institutions in the small Irish town.
The official synopsis of Small Things Like These reads, "While working as a coal merchant to support his family, Bill Furlong discovers disturbing secrets kept by the local convent — and uncovers truths of his own — forcing him to confront his past and the complicit silence of a small Irish town controlled by the Catholic Church."
Eileen Walsh, Michelle Fairley, Emily Watson, Clare Dunne, Helen Behan, Liadán Dunlea, Agnes O'Casey, Mark McKenna and Zara Devlin, round out the cast of Small Things Like These. The film has a screenplay written by Enda Walsh and is produced by Murphy along with Matt Damon, Alan Moloney, Drew Vinton, and Jeff Robinov.
