A film about Pepsi's efforts to topple Coca-Cola as the best aerated drink brand in the world is in its early development phase at Sony Pictures. Judd Apatow and Steven Spielberg are attached to Cola Wars as its director and producer, respectively. Spielberg is set to produce the film through his banner, Amblin Entertainment.

The rivalry between the aforesaid companies in the 1980s included the Pepsi accident with Michael Jackson, the failure of New Coke, and more. Ben Queen and Jason Shuman are writing the pitch for Cola Wars. Shuman is known as the screenwriter of the successful Apple TV+ series Acapulco, the executive producer of the HBO show Winning Time: The Rise of the Lakers Dynasty, and the producer of the independent film To Leslie. On the other hand, Queen is known for the second and third Cars films. Queen has adapted Vita Sackville-West's novel A Note of Explanation for Netflix and is adapting the Naomi Novik novel His Majesty’s Dragon for Fox.
