Paramount Pictures has changed the release date for the reboot of the Naked Gun franchise that stars Liam Neeson in a lead role. Instead of the earlier announced date of July 18, 2025, the film will release on August 1 next year.

The film stars Neeson as the Leslie Nielsen character Detective Frank Drebin's son from the original comedy franchise. Director Akiva Schaffer's film also stars Pamela Anderson, Paul Walter Hauser, Kevin Durand, Danny Huston, Liza Koshy, Cody Rhodes, CCH Pounder, and Busta Rhymes.

Director Schaffer has written the draft screenplay for the film with Dan Gregor and Doug Mand, who reunite after their Emmy Award-winning feature Chip ‘N Dale: Rescue Rangers.

Seth MacFarlane and Erica Huggins are the producers.

Featuring three Naked Gun films and a TV show titled Police Squad!, the franchise is known for its absurd humour, slapstick violence, and parodies of classic cop film genre tropes. Besides Nielsen, the films feature George Kennedy and Priscilla Presley's characters. Nielsen's Detective Drebin also comes in the TV show.
