Lilo & Stitch are back to entertain the audience 23 years after its animated version. The new live-action teaser trailer dropped by Disney gives the audience a first look at the adorable blue monster as he stomps his way, crashing and destroying a sand castle. Directed by Dean Fleischer Camp, the film is slated to hit theatres on May 23, 2025.

The other members of the cast include Maia Kealoha as Lilo, Sydney Elizebeth Agudong as Nani and Kaipot Dudoit as David Kawena. Zach Galifianakis, Billy Magnussen, Courtney B Vance and Hannah Waddingham are part of the supporting cast along with Chris Sanders, Tia Carrere, Amy Hill and Jason Scott Lee who were a part of the original.

The story follows Lilo Pelekai, a young Hawaiian girl left in the care of her older sister, Nani, after their parents’ tragic passing. Their lives take an unexpected turn when Lilo adopts Experiment 626, a mischievous alien she believes to be a dog, and lovingly names him Stitch.

Camp directs the new film from a script by Chris Kekaniokalani Bright. The 2002 animated feature was written and directed by Chris Sanders and Dean DeBlois in their feature directorial debuts and produced by Clark Spencer, based on an original story created by Sanders.

Building on the success of the 2002 animated film Lilo & Stitch, a direct-to-video sequel, Stitch! The Movie, was released in 2003, doubling as a pilot for Lilo & Stitch: The Series. This was followed by Lilo & Stitch 2: Stitch Has a Glitch in 2005 and Leroy & Stitch in 2006.

This is one of the remakes that Disney has in its upcoming slate. Director Barry Jenkins’ prequel movie Mufasa: The Lion King hits theaters next month, while the Rachel Zegler-led Snow White is set for release in March of 2025.
