After years of speculation, an update regarding a third addition to Guy Ritchie's Sherlock Holmes franchise has surfaced. Actor Jude Law, who is a regular in the franchises, recently revealed that a script for the third Sherlock Holmes film has been completed.

When asked about his appearance in franchises, he said his longevity in Marvel and Star Wars are to be decided by the respective studios, but he is definitely reprising the role of Watson, the able foil to detective Sherlock Holmes, played by Robert Downey Jr. The franchise started in 2009 with Robert Downey Jr playing the titular character and Law as his assistant. The rest of the cast includes Rachel McAdams, Eddie Marson, and Mark Strong. Set in the 19th century, the films are about an English detective who unravels the mysteries behind a crime and solves it.

The franchise returned in 2011 with Sherlock Holmes: A Game Of Shadows. With most of the actors reprising their roles, the cast included Noomi Rapace and Jared Harris. Both the films were directed by Guy Ritchie, and he is expected to helm the third installment as well.
