The latest announcement from the makers of Amazon's upcoming TV series Tomb Raider is that Sophie Turner has been roped in to play Lara Croft.

However, according to Variety, the deal is not fully closed yet and is expected to close soon. The show, with writer Phoebe Waller-Bridge, was approved by Amazon earlier this year. Turner will be the third A-lister to take up the role of Croft, who originated in the popular Tomb Raider video game series after Angelina Jolie and Alicia Vikander.

Best known for her role Sansa Stark in the HBO series Game of Thrones, for which she received an Emmy nomination for the category best supporting actress in a drama in 2019. She also played Jean Grey in X Men films, namely X-Men: Apocalypse and X-Men: Dark Phoenix. She was previously seen in the miniseries Joan and Max series The Staircase.

The Tomb Raider series is being developed following a deal between Crystal Dynamics and Amazon MGM Studios via dj2's first-look deal to develop more series and films with the titular character.
