Kirsten Dunst and Daniel Bruhl have signed on to star alongside Keanu Reeves for the upcoming film, The Entertainment System Is Down. Swedish director and editor, Ruben Östlund, known for Triangle of Sadness (2022) and Force Majeure (2014) is directing this film which is described to be a social satire.

Ostlund, having initially set the film on a long-haul flight with malfunctioning digital consoles, now aims to escalate the narrative to a climax where passengers themselves become the catalyst for bringing the plane down. Several additional well-known actors are joining the cast which is yet to be announced. The production for the film is set to begin in early 2025. 

A Swedish-German-French co-co-production, The Entertainment System is Down reunites the director with his trusted collaborators: producer Philippe Bober from Coproduction Office and producer Erik Hemmendorff of Plattform Produktion. The global distribution is managed by the Coproduction Office.

This film marks Östlund's second venture into English-language cinema and his seventh feature overall, following acclaimed works such as The Guitar Mongoloid, Involuntary, Play, Force Majeure and The Square.
