Warner Bros CEO wants a Barbie sequel with director Greta Gerwig

CE Features

The CEO and co-chairperson of Warner Bros., Pamela Abdy told BBC that she would like to produce a sequel to Greta Gerwig's Barbie. According to Abdy, Barbie "ignited audiences around the world," and its director Gerwig and Warner Bros were always entertaining the idea of following up the successful first film with a second one. It is to be noted that Warner Bros. distributed Barbie.

Abdy also expressed her disappointment at the omission of Margot Robbie and Gerwig from the list of Oscar 2024 nominations for best actress and best director, respectively. According to the Warner Bros. chief, Gerwig is "among the best filmmakers working today."

Meanwhile, Ryan Gosling has a best supporting actor nomination for his performance in Barbie, and he is also set to perform the 'I’m Just Ken' song at the Oscar 2024 ceremony.

Barbie starred Gosling opposite Robbie. It has earned as many as eight Oscar nominations, including best picture, best supporting actor (Gosling), and best supporting actress (America Ferrera), and original song.
