Green Lantern show Lanterns gets a go-ahead from HBO

Lanterns is the first live-action series under the DC Universe

HBO has made a straight-to-series order for the live-action Green Lantern series, titled Lanterns. Based on DC Comics' Green Lantern characters, Lanterns will have Ozark alum Chris Mundy as its showrunner. Mundy will also write and executive produce it alongside Damon Lindelof (Lost and Watchmen) and Tom King (Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow and Mister Miracle). DC Studios and Warner Bros. Television will produce the show that has long been in the making.

DC Studios' James Gunn and Peter Safran said in a recent joint statement, "John Stewart and Hal Jordan are two of DC’s most compelling characters, and Lanterns brings them to life in an original detective story that is a foundational part of the unified DCU we’re launching next summer with Superman."

Billed as a fresh take on DC Comics' Green LanternLanterns is the first live-action series under the DC Universe. The show will have eight episodes.
