Actor Tom Hardy, who played "Mad Max" Rockatansky in Mad Max: Fury Road, addressed the possibilities of him returning to the Mad Max Universe.

The Mad Max Universe was rumoured to get a prequel titled The Wasteland, and Hardy would reprise his character.

Responding to the speculations, Hardy told Forbes, “I don’t think that’s happening.”

Obliquely dismissing the chances to get Charlize Theron and Tom Hardy to work together again, director George Miller called the two as "different performers." In his recent interview with The Telegraph, Miller recalled a drama that took place between the actors on the sets of Mad Max: Fury Road. He told the British Daily that “Tom has a damage to him but also a brilliance that comes with it, and whatever was going on with him at the time, he had to be coaxed out of his trailer. Whereas Charlize was incredibly disciplined – a dancer by training, which told in the precision of her performance – and always the first one on set.”

However, he added that he was "an optimist" and saw their behaviour as a reflection of their characters, and that they had to "learn to cooperate in order to ensure mutual survival." He was unequivocal in rejecting "great performances" as an excuse for other "disruption."

Regarding the prequel, the filmmaker said he will have to wait and watch if it materialises.
