Miles Teller has been cast in the lead role of the remake of 1982's An Officer and a Gentleman, a Temple Hill Productions venture. The 1982 film revolves around Zack Mayo (Richard Gere), a Naval aviator who has a tussle with Gunnery Sergeant Emil Foley (the late Louis Gossett Jr) at the same time as he has a romantic relationship with a small-town factory employee named Paula (Debra Winger). Gossett Jr became the first African-American actor to win the Best Supporting Actor Oscar in 1983 for his portrayal of the drill instructor in the film, directed by Taylor Hackford, which also bagged an Academy Award for the song 'Up Where We Belong'.

Matt Johnson wrote the first draft for the film, while Dana Fox penned the second one.

Teller was last seen in 2022's Spiderhead, and his upcoming projects include Eternity, Michael, and The Gorge. The remake of An Officer and a Gentleman marks a comeback to the Navy cadet for Teller after his portrayal of Bradley "Rooster" Bradshaw in the Tom Cruise starrer Top Gun: Maverick.
