Grant Sputore has signed on to direct the next film in the Monsterverse franchise, featuring Godzilla and Kong. The development follows a recent agreement between Sputore and the studio Legendary. Sputore will direct the film from a screenplay by David Callaham. As reported earlier, scenarist Callaham, best known for Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, as well as the first draft and story for 2014's Godzilla, would pen the screenplay.

The latest development comes in the light of director Adam Wingard's exit from the franchise after he helmed Godzilla vs. Kong and Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire.

The film will mark Sputore's sophomore directorial; he made his directorial debut with the 2019 Hilary Swank starrer I Am Mother.

Legendary’s Monsterverse turned ten this year after starting with Godzilla. Further, the franchise is also entering the streaming space with the series for Apple TV+ titled Monarch: Legacy of Monsters, featuring Wyatt Russell and Kurt Russell in the lead roles.
