The show revolving around Arkham Asylum in Matt Reeves' Batman world is not going ahead as planned at Max, reports Variety. Antonio Campos, the creator of The Staircase, was attached to the Arkham Asylum project as a director, showrunner and executive producer. Campos' version has come to a halt at Max, but reports say that a different version of the project set in Gotham City's infamous asylum could still be made.

While it was announced four years ago, it was supposed to centre on the Gotham City Police Department's inner workings as shown in Reeves' film The Batman. The project has had a complicated journey since then, with prospective writer-executive producer Terrence Winter leaving it in November 2020 for creative differneces and then Warner Bros. Pictures and potential creator Joe Barton going their separate ways.

In related news, the crime drama The Penguin, starring Colin Ferrell in a role reprisal from The Batman, is slated to premiere on Max this September. Besides, Reeves is working on The Batman Part II, tentatively scheduled to release theatrically in October 2026.
