75th Emmy Awards: Succession bags six awards including Outstanding Drama Series

The HBO series also won the Best Drama Series award for the third consecutive time at the 2024 Golden Globes

After receiving an incredible 27 nominations this year and 75 altogether over the course of its four seasons, HBO's Succession triumphantly won the Best Drama Series category as it bid its final goodbye. 

The Roy family took home six awards, including Best Actor in Drama for Kieran Culkin, Best Actress in Drama for Sarah Snook, and Best Supporting Actor in Drama for Matthew Macfadyen.

Actor Peter Dinklage who was presenting the honour said, “Nothing is better than a powerful story. Nothing can defeat it.”

Mark Mylod won the Emmy for Outstanding Directing for a Drama Series for his work on the true crime series.

Succession was nominated alongside shows such as Andor, Better Call Saul, The Crown, House of the Dragon, The Last of Us, The White Lotus and Yellowjackets.

The HBO series also won the Best Drama Series award for the third consecutive time at the 2024 Golden Globes. The series had previously won the award at the 2020 and 2022 ceremonies.

The satirical comedy-drama series centres on the Roy family, the owners of global media and entertainment conglomerate Waystar RoyCo, and their fight for control of the company amidst uncertainty about the health of the family's patriarch.

Created by Jesse Armstrong, the series features an ensemble cast of Brian Cox, Jeremy Strong, Kieran Culkin, Sarah Snook, Alan Ruck, Matthew Macfadyen, Nicholas Braun, Alexander Skarsgård, Peter Friedman, Natalie Gold and Rob Yang.

The 75th Primetime Emmy Awards took place on Monday, January 15 at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles, California, which was hosted by Anthony Anderson.
