Dan Trachtenberg, best known for 10 Cloverfield Lane and Prey, will be directing the new Predator film. Titled Badlands, it is a standalone film that revolves around the Predator character and is not a continuation of Trachtenberg’s last movie Prey. Details about the film’s plot are kept under wraps, but Badlands is believed to be a futuristic movie with lots of action.

According to reports, the Predator film will have a female actor in the lead role, much like Prey. Patrick Aison, the writer of Prey, also returns to pen the script for Badlands, based on Trachtenberg’s story. Badlands is only one of the few Predator films in the pipeline. A Prey sequel is also in its early phase of development at 20th Century Studios, and talks are going on between the studio and Amber Midthunder regarding the latter’s resumption of her lead role in the film. If Midthunder secures the role again, it will be the first occurrence of an actor reprising their character in the franchise.
