Wonka crosses 200 million mark at box office

Timothee Chalamet-starring fantasy Wonka has crossed the Rs 200 million mark at the box office. The film was recently released in South Korea and earned $3.97 million between Friday and Sunday in Korea. 

The Paul King-directed feature has become the 8th film released in 2023 to cross $200M at the domestic box office. Meanwhile, the film brought in another $10.4 million internationally, pushing its global box office haul to $571.7 million.

A musical drama from Warner Bros, Wonka released in early December 2023. Also starring, Calah Lane, Olivia Colman, Hugh Grant, and Rowan Atkinson among others, Wonka is directed by Paul King. The film stars Timothee as the titular chocolatier, which is based on the character written by Roald Dahl. It serves as the prequel to Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.

The film opened to a positive reception upon its release. “When blocks of sweet treats can bribe adults, chocolate fountains and death by chocolate are taken in the literal sense, the land of Wonka becomes a beautiful immersion of our childhood times,” reads the CE review of the film.

The movie is produced by David Heyman, Alexandra Derbyshire, and Luke Kelly.
