Rapper Killer Mike was taken away from Sunday night's Grammy Awards in handcuffs by police after sweeping up three of the music industry's biggest prizes for rap music, witnesses said.

Los Angeles police offered no statement on the matter and two separate press officers on duty said they had no information.

Videos that went viral on X, showed Killer Mike being led away in handcuffs around 4:22 p.m. PT, as some people shouted “Free Mike” in the background. The videos went viral and sparked outrage and confusion among his fans and fellow musicians.

The 48-year-old rapper won awards for best rap performance, rap song, and rap album. His first win was for the best rap performance for 'Scientists & Engineers,' which also won best rap song, and his best rap album was 'Michael.' Mike's last Grammy was in 2003 for 'The Whole World.'

His song 'Scientists and Engineers' featured André 3000, Future, and Eryn Allen Kane, and was praised by critics and fans alike for its lyrical prowess and social commentary.

Killer Mike is known for his activism and outspokenness on several social and political issues such as racial justice, police brutality, economic inequality, and education. He was a vocal supporter of Sen. Bernie Sanders' 2016 U.S. presidential campaign. He also hosted Netflix's 'Trigger Warning with Killer Mike,' a 2019 documentary series about issues affecting the Black community.
