While Chris Evans has been roped in to likely play Steve Rogers in Marvel's upcoming film Avengers: Doomsday, starring Robert Downey Jr as Doctor Doom, it has now been revealed that Hayley Atwell is also returning to the MCU as Agent Peggy Carter.

The Russo Brothers are returning to direct a two-part Avengers film, Avengers: Doomsday, set for May 1, 2026 release, and Avengers: Secret Wars, set to release in 2027. The ensemble cast of the much-anticipated film also includes Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Joseph Quinn and Ebon Moss-Bacherach.

Atwell first portrayed the MI6 agent, Peggy Carter, in Captain America: The First Avenger (2011), where she becomes Steve Rogers' romantic interest during World War II.

Following the conflict, Carter went on to help establish SHIELD, ultimately rising to the position of its director. In 2022, Atwell returned to the franchise, playing an alternate version of the character, Captain Carter, in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. She has also featured in Agent Carter, Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Avengers: Age of Ultron, Ant-Man and Avengers: Endgame.

Up next, Atwell will be seen reprising her role as Grace in the upcoming Mission: Impossible – Final Reckoning, which is set for release in May 2025.
