Filmmaker Paul Schrader, who is preparing for the release of his upcoming film Oh, Canada, gave updates on his two future projects.

Attending the Sarajevo Film Festival, Schrader told Screen Daily that he will finish a draft in the next three months for The Basics of Philosophy, which he said, according to Deadline, will be made on the lines of his Man in a Room trilogy (First Reformed, The Card Counter, and Master Gardener). The film will be about an intellectual university philosophy professor, he said.

Also sharing an update on his other film, Non Compos Mentis (Latin for "an unsound mind"), he said he would begin production of the film in November after doing a "quick rewrite on it." Billed as a noir, Schrader earlier said that the film will portray the "stupid things men do for love."

His upcoming film Oh, Canada will feature actors Richard Gene, Jacob Elordi, Uma Thurman, Michael Imperioli, Victoria Hill, Kristine Froseth, Penelope Mitchell, and Zach Shaffer.

Oh, Canada follows a terminally ill writer and filmmaker (played by Gere in the present and with Elordi in flashbacks), who agrees to have his final testament filmed by documentary makers Malcolm (played by Imperioli) and Diana (played by Hill), several years after he fled to Canada to avoid being enlisted to fight in the Vietnam War.
