Universal Pictures has secured the rights to bring Reikon's acclaimed video game 'Ruiner' to the big screen. Set to helm the project is Wes Ball, known for the Maze Runner trilogy and Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes.

Adapting the game's narrative into a screenplay is Michael Arlen Ross, known for his work on Locked. Story Kitchen, 87North, and Oddball will produce the film.

With more than 4 million players, Ruiner has captivated audiences with its intense action and cyberpunk setting. The game transports players to the year 2091 in the neon-lit metropolis of Rengkok. As per its official synopsis, “the game follows a wired psychopath who fights against a corrupt system to uncover the truth and retrieve his kidnapped brother. Under the guidance of a mysterious hacker, he battles through a world of brutal violence and cutting-edge technology, inching closer to the dark secrets hidden within the city’s neon-lit streets.”

David Leitch and Kelly McCormick will produce the film as per 87North's first-look deal with Universal Pictures.

Fresh from the success of Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes, Ball is also working on a live-action adaptation of the game 'The Legend of Zelda'.
