As reported earlier, Bill Skarsgard plays the lead in Rupert Sanders' remake of The Crow, the 1994 Alex Proyas directorial starring the late Brandon Lee. In the film, which is slated for an August 23 release, Skarsgard plays Eric Draven, a man who comes back from death to take revenge against the gruesome murder of his lover, Shelly (FKA Twigs). Opening up on the role, Skarsgard said, "The Crow is very much a film for today’s audiences. What drew me to this project was the opportunity to bring a fresh, dynamic energy to Eric—a character who, despite his intimidating exterior, is profoundly vulnerable and deeply in love.”

The actor went on to add, “Eric is tormented, raw, and vulnerable. But there’s another side to him; he’s also gentle and hurting. Eric has grown up in a destructive household and has been living on the streets. He uses drugs and other vices to survive, with only Eric’s creative work in music and drawing giving him purpose. Then Eric meets Shelly, which transforms him.”

Billed as a modern reimagining of James O’Barr's graphic novel, The Crow draws from the novel's dark aesthetics and haunting imagery and explores how one goes to extreme lengths to preserve true love. The film also stars Danny Huston, Laura Birn, and Isabella Wei. Sanders directed it from Zach Baylin's screenplay. On the other hand, Edward R Pressman, Victor Hadida, Samuel Hadida, Molly Hassell, and John Jencks produced it.
