At the D23 expo held over the last three days, Disney announced several updates for its existing franchises as well as first-time productions. Among the new films announced were Incredibles 3, which will see Brad Bird return to the director's chair; Frozen 3, which will release in 2027, after which another sequel was hinted at; Toy Story 5, which will see the toys face off with electronics; The Mandalorian and Grogu, which is a spinoff from the Star Wars series The Mandalorian; Monster Jam, announced by Dwayne Johnson; and Hoppers, a body-swap film about a beaver and a human. Another major film update was the release date and title of the Avatar sequel. The film is titled Avatar: Fire and Ash and will release on December 19, 2025. A spin-off of the popular animated franchise Inside Out, titled Dream Productions, was also announced.
Disney also revealed the first footage of many of its ongoing productions. A tease for the upcoming season of Percy Jackson and the Olympians, footage from Captain America: Brave New World and Fantastic Four, a teaser for season 2 of the Star Wars series Andor, a glimpse of Stitch, the alien from the live-action adaptation of the animated classic Lilo & Stitch, a sneak peak of the series Ironheart, and first footage from the sequel series Wizards Beyond Waverly Place were all released at the expo, which takes place once every two years.
There was also a slate of trailers released for upcoming series like Daredevil: Born Again, which is to premiere next March and will see Charlie Cox reprise the role of the titular character; Win or Lose, which is Pixar's first ever original series; the WandaVision spinoff Agatha All Along; and Skeleton Crew from the Star Wars universe. The new Snow White film, starring Gal Gadot as the Evil Queen and Rachel Zegler as Snow White, also had its trailer revealed, along with the trailers of Moana 2, which will hit screens on November 29 and The Lion King prequel titled Mufasa, which will release on December 20.
Other notable announcements made during the expo include the rechristening of Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan starrer Freaky Friday 2 to Freakier Friday, indie rock band Nine Inch Nails onboarding Tron: Ares as music composers, the inclusion of Zoe Saldana to the voice cast of Pixar's 29th film Elio, and that of Ke Huy Quan to Zootopia 2.
